Haumono Wins Interim Heavyweight Title in Un-impressive Style.
Solomon Haumono did his hopes of a heavyweight title shot no favours with an unimpressive knockout win over Argentinian veteran Manuel Alberto Pucheta.
Haumono notched his 21st career KO victory on Wednesday night in Brisbane, but had to wait until two-and-a-half minutes into the sixth round to get it done over an opponent who spent most of his time openly taunting and mocking him for not finishing the job earlier.
This win gives him the WBA Oceania Interim Heavyweight Title but he will need to improve out of sight to be any sort of threat to Joseph Parker and Lucas Browne, the calibre of fighters he has recently been calling out and also the Oceania champion Zhang Junglong from China.
Haumono was trying out a new quicker style of boxing for the first time and was clearly tentative as Pucheta (39-12) clowned around the ring, begging to be hit, before eventually connecting with a straight right through his defences.
